In the ancient village of Sawiya, there lived a very handsome man called Osire. Tallest of his peers with well-defined muscles and smooth ginger skin, he depicted an outcome of rich nutrition and more. His mane fell from his crown and draped his broad masculine shoulders gingerly. He was the envy of other men as none looked like him.
Rumor had it that he was not really the offspring of his father but that of a deity. Apparently, his mother was traveling back from a long journey and she got caught up in a storm. Unable to continue with her journey, she sought shelter under the Great Tree which was said to be a place of the supernatural. The ancestors of the land worshipped at this tree. It was believed that prayers reached the gods faster in that space. However, as it was dark, Osire’s mother did not recognize that the tree under which she sheltered was the same one that had been depicted in legends. As she waited for the storm to pass, a man walked out of the tree, a halo surrounding his frame. He carried the frightened woman through the storm to her home. Nine months later, Osire was born. By then, the story of her strange encounter with the tree had been forgotten. But when the boy was born and people realized how strange he looked, the whispers reemerged.
Despite the physical image of a god, Osire’s character was far from anything good. Soon, he realized that he is above other men and his pride got the best of him. He broke the customs of the society intentionally, knowing that could not be punished as he had this ability to mesmerize people into letting him walk free.
Perhaps the worst of his character was having his way with the women in the village. The village had customs that prohibited girls and women from being intimate with men who are not their fiancé or husband. People who broke these rules were exiled from their families. So, the women had obeyed these norms until Osire came along.
Osire cavorted with females of all kinds who unintentionally succumbed to his spells. The men came to know of this deed and decided to punish him instead of the women. Since the lad had unique abilities to control the minds of other humans, punishing the women who had lost their way with him would be unfair to the women. However, every time he was arrested to be punished, he would chant some words which influenced the judge’s mind to declare him innocent. One time, he was locked up in a cell that was secured with a hard steel padlock. Osire looked at it while chanting. The metal transformed into shattered plastic and threw the doors open. The witnessing guards were too confused to do anything.
One day, Osire wandered through the forest when his gaze fell upon the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Her name was Ayanna and she was the daughter of the village’s medicine man. As usual, Osire moved closer to her and waited for his charms to take over. Nothing happened. Ayanna walked past him without even acknowledging his handsomeness. Osire was surprised.
“Come mate with me. I will make you the most powerful woman in this village. I will give everything that you ever wished for.” For the first time, Osire resorted to persuasion tactics that mortal men used to court a girl.
“I cannot. I am betrothed to another man who has already given me everything I need.” Ayanna replied.
Osire tried to block her path but Ayanna screamed alerting her father who came out to investigate. Confused and humiliated, Osire walked away wondering what made this girl resistant to his spell.
It happened that Ayanna’s father had heard of Osire’s abilities to corrupt the women and so he made a concoction to protect her daughter. However, he was hesitant to share the antidote with the rest of the village because he wasn’t sure if it would work. After all, they had never witnessed anything like Osire in the village before. What if his godly seduction was more powerful? This thought had tormented him until the moment he saw his daughter un-bewitched. The next morning, he woke up early to look for the village elders to share his discovery. He left Ayanna behind knowing that she was now safe.
Osire returned to the forest in an attempt to seduce Ayanna again. He found her focused on the daily chores. The reaction was similar to the day before. His charms were inefficient.
“I will turn you into the ugliest woman if you refuse to sleep with me.” In the last attempt, Osire threatened.
Ayanna began to laugh at Osire. “Just accept that you are not as special as you think you are.” She mocked. “You will never have me.”
The bitter Osire chanted an ugly spell that turned the beautiful maiden into a grotesque creature. Her clothes ripped as she ballooned in size. Scales and tiny horns began replaced her cocoa milk skin. Even Osire himself was loathed by her appearance.
“Not even your betrothed will want you now.” He mocked as he turned away to leave. However, the transformed Ayanna attacked, digging her fang-turned canines into his flesh. Osire fell down bleeding profusely. The creature was about to attack again when Ade, Ayanna’s betrothed and one of the village’s ordained warriors, appeared on the scene and shot the monster with an arrow. Ade believed he was saving Osire from the creature oblivious to him that the monster was actually his fiancée.
Then a weird thing happened. After being hit by Ade’s arrow, Ayanna’s body returned to its normal appearance as she fell in Ade’s arms. Osire also transformed, an infliction caused by Ayanna’s fangs. He looked like a weakling version of a less than average man rather than the hunky deity that wrecked havoc in the village.
Ayanna’s father arrived and treated her daughter’s wound. She recovered and got married to Ade. The village guardians arrested Osire and sentenced him to a life in a cell. Rumor has it that he killed himself in the cell after realizing that he had no longer had the powers to hypnotize others into forgiving him.
The people immortalized Ayanna. After all, she was the one who defeated a being that other humans had believed to be impossible.
